The pretty township of Buninyong lies at the foot of landmark Mt Buninyong, 11KM south of Ballarat in Victoria.
Surrounded by a precious belt of farmlands and wooded ridges, Buninyong treasures the beauty of its natural environment and the picturesque gold-era buildings and gardens which give it an old-world tranquillity and charm. At the same time, its contemporary cafés, shops, markets, festivals and amenities all contribute to a spirited community life in the peace and beauty of the countryside.

Beautiful Buninyong Exhibition

Artist Bruce Hargrave's lovely exhibition of Buninyong water colours has closed and Bruce is now busy painting up a series of commissioned works around the district. A few paintings from the Beautiful Buninyong Exhibition will be on view again shortly in a new space.

Film Festival a great success

The "best-ever" Buninyong Film Festival was a gala event this year with a red carpet for arriving patrons and roving photographers capturing the atmosphere.

Live music from VOX, Phil Corcoran, Graeme Vendy and Barry Currie made it an event to remember, with the audience literally dancing in the aisles on the closing night. Pictures, videos and quiz results will be posted soon on the Festival's website: Buninyong Film Festival Thank you to all who came along and helped celebrate the Festival's 21st Birthday.

Walks Around Buninyong & District

Mt InnesWalks Around Buninyong & District is a new website designed to feature local walks and provide plenty of support information. It has a detailed Summary Sheet, Walking Notes, Background Information on points of interest, and a downloadable Georeferenced Map for each walk. The website also allows for walkers to contribute photos and data concerning birds and plants identified along the walk.

The Buninyong Bird Park Circuit is the first walk that has been fully developed but many other walks are planned for the website. Walkers' feedback is welcomed.

The funding for the development of the initial pages and map was provided by the Ballarat City Council through its 2011 Community Grants Program.

See also the new Goldfields Track website which covers the 210 km Goldfields Track all the way from Bendigo to Mt Buninyong, via Castlemaine, Daylesford, Creswick and Ballarat.

If you know of a coming event or any other development affecting Buninyong and District that you would like to publicise, let us know so we can help spread the word. Any photos would be great, too. You can email the details to the Buninyong Website
