Howzatt!! And how's this for some great marmalade

Buninyong Eleven

The 2011 Buninyong Eleven gets a Mayoral send-off on its tour to England for the MarmalAshes Test against an England Eleven in February, 2011. Ballarat Mayor, Cr Craig Fletcher accompanied by (L to R) Jim Clementson, President of Buninyong Progress Association, Russell Luckock, originator, Cr Ben Taylor and June Henderson, President of Buninyong Country Women's Association.

While the Buninyong Eleven beat the Poms in the inaugural Test in early 2011, we awaited the results of the 2012 return match with much enthusiasm. And we need to call up Australia's Marmy Army of marmalade-makers from which the Selectors will choose the next Australian Eleven to tour to England in February, 2015.

The Buninyong Eleven, however, will also tour then, up against an England Village Eleven in a classic Village versus Village match. The Selectors will be at the next Buninyong Marvellous Marmalade Fair, to be held in Buninyong, near Ballarat, Western Victoria on Saturday 31st January, 2015

Like cricket's Ashes, the MarmalAshes are never 'presented' to the winner, as occurs in some coarse, glitzy, shiny-gold ceremonies. However, a representative of the winning team may be congratulated - in the presence of the MarmalAshes - amidst much self-congratulatory back-slapping and wanton bragging provided the dignity of the Dock is respected!

Who is eligible to be selected for the Buninyong Village Eleven?

Anyone associated with Buninyong and district. For example, Buninyong and district addressees; anyone belonging to Buninyong clubs, societies or organisations; anyone who supports Buninyong activities such as the Buninyong Farmers market.

Please note: A Buninyong Eleven will not be selected in 2018

Buninyong Marmalade - puts zest into your morning!

England Challenged!

Mayor of Ballarat, Cr Craig Fletcher, good-humouredly reads the Proclamation in which he had "the honour and the temerity" to Challenge England to play us for the 2012 MarmalAshes while Buninyong's prize-winning marmalade-makers look on.

Buninyong Eleven won the inaugural MarmalAshes trophy - beat England 225 runs to 210

Congratulations

After winning the 2011 event, Mayor, Cr Craig Fletcher congratulates Mr Jim Clementson when Buninyong won the MarmalAshes trophy, while CWA marmalade-makers (L to R), Lyn Fleming, June Henderson and Sheila Etchells share the well-deserved limelight.

The MarmalAshes will be retained in the Dock of the old Buninyong Courthouse, and like cricket's Ashes, will not tour but can be viewed during opening hours of the Courthouse, now the Buninyong Historical Society's Museum. For information and opening hours see: home.vicnet.net.au/~buninhis/
